Eugène LAVIEILLE (1820–1889) Tree in Winter Graphite drawing. Height: 31.5 cm. Width: 48.5 cm. Provenance: sale of the Lavieille Studio, Me Rouillac, January 14, 2007, which states: "Eugène LAVIEILLE (1820–1889), landscape painter, member of the Barbizon School. Trained as a decorative painter, his passion for painting led him to enroll at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he became Camille Corot’s top student. He subsequently attended the Barbizon School, where he spent four years of his life, from 1852 to 1856. He worked outdoors, painting from life, throughout his life. The early nature of his outdoor work made him a pre-Impressionist artist."
