Handwritten notes on the stretcher: “To be sent to Mlle Deszilles in St. Brieuc” / “Mlle Eudes de Guimard, 32 Rue Poussin, Auteuil, Paris.” This may refer to Louise Joséphine Epagniou Deszille (1812–1888), daughter of Jean Louis Epagniou Deszille and Anne de Quérangal Height: 37 cm. Dorcas Raised from the Dead by Peter (Acts 9:36–42) 36 In Joppa, among the disciples, there was a woman named Tabitha, which means Dorcas; she was known for her many good deeds and acts of charity. 37 She fell ill at that time and died. After washing her body, they laid her in an upper room. 38 Since Lydda is near Joppa, the disciples, having heard that Peter was there, sent two men to him, asking him to come to them without delay. 39 Peter got up and went with them. When he arrived, they took him to the upper room. All the widows gathered around him, weeping, and showed him the tunics and other garments that Dorcas had made while she was with them. 40 Peter sent everyone out, knelt down, and prayed; then, turning toward the body, he said, “Tabitha, get up!” She opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter, she sat up. 41 He took her by the hand and helped her to her feet. Then he called the saints and the widows and presented her to them alive. 42 This became known throughout Joppa, and many came to believe in the Lord.
