Fernand CIAN (Carrara, 1889 – Paris, 1954) Fernando Ciancianani, known as Lovers Protecting the Nest Patinated terracotta, signed on the back and dated 1779. Height: 24 cm. Of Italian origin, Fernand Cian worked in Paris with Laporte-Blairsy, himself a student of Alexandre Falguière. He developed a pastiche of 18th-century sculpture, particularly through busts and portraits of children, sometimes backdating the work as in this piece. The Louvre Museum holds in its collections a work by Cian similar to our piece, “Young Boy in 18th-Century Costume,” dated in the same manner to the 18th century. (Ref. 3940).
