BRITAIN, 17th century. An Italian-style TABLE in natural oak. Rectangular in shape, the removable top has two extension leaves sliding on two long guides. The carved belt is adorned with pods, modillions and small feathered bird heads. The baluster base features openwork consoles decorated with two figures, probably ecclesiastical. The bases feature turned columns sculpted with scrolled capitals. The bases are adorned with palmettes. It holds ten turned balusters, joined by a crosspiece sculpted with shells and small spinning tops. All assembled on a spacer carved with small rosettes. The piece is signed on the top of a pediment "Ian CLOAREC" and dated 1611. Early 17th century Breton work. Length : 150 cm. Width : 67 cm. Height : 84 cm. A very similar model, donated by Léonard, is in the Musée Breton, Quimper (inv. N° R.1885.33.1.). Nota bene: the later top was probably made in the 20th century. It is stamped "JC Jezequel". Restorations in the lower part of the base, wear on some carvings, but no active worm damage. This type of table is rare in Breton regionalism of this period.
