ROBIDA, Albert. The Prussian Vulture. First edition of this rare satirical album by Albert Robida, illustrated with 110 black-and-white drawings in the text. Paris, Georges Bertrand, 1918. Folio, paperback, cover printed in black. 62 pages, 110 black-and-white drawings in the text. Cover slightly soiled and frayed. First edition of this satirical album by Albert Robida, which describes and depicts, through 110 often macabre and terrifying drawings, the tragic causes of World War I, personified by the Hohenzollern Vulture. In his lengthy preface, Georges d’Esparbès describes the work as a brilliant and prophetic book, and proclaims that Germany is doomed to die—asphyxiated, blinded, imprisoned, its belly full of ink, its eyes gouged out by its scribblers. The 16 color plates are often missing. A beautiful copy with a clean and fresh interior.
