REMON, Jean-Pierre, and CHATEAUBRIAND, François-René de. *La Brière*. A large illustrated volume featuring 40 original watercolors painted directly on paper by Jean-Pierre Rémon, all signed. One of 14 copies on pearlescent Japanese paper, complete with its 5 additional signed watercolors and enriched with a letter from the artist and a final composition. Paris, Robert Léger, 1959. Folio, loose-leaf, filled cover, off-white half-vellum slipcase adorned with the title in gold lettering, cloth-bound covers, and a matching cloth-edged slipcase. 264 pp., frontispiece, 40 illustrations, including 20 full-page ones. Minimal foxing inside the slipcase and on the edges. An impressive bibliophile edition featuring 40 original watercolors by Jean-Pierre Rémon (born in 1928) and hand-signed by him, including a frontispiece and 20 other full-page illustrations. Limited edition of 159 copies; this one is one of 18 on pearlescent Japanese paper (No. 14), containing five additional watercolors on Arches paper (38.4 x 28.5 cm) presented in a brick-red slipcase. The framed painting (90 x 70 cm) listed on the colophon is missing. Our copy is enhanced on the half-page half-title page with another watercolor—also signed—and a large letter from the artist addressed to “Maître Hild” and dated June 24, 1959. This work is impressive both for the ease with which the watercolor compositions—painted directly on paper—were executed and for their sheer abundance. A rare item in very good condition.
