First Latin edition of Johan Gottschalk Wallerius’s major treatise on physical chemistry. Stockholm, Lars Salvius, 1760. In Latin. Binding slightly rubbed with some scuffing. First Latin edition (translated from Swedish and considerably expanded by the author himself) of the first part of the fundamental treatise on physical chemistry by Johan Gottschalk Wallerius (1709–1785), professor at Uppsala University. The work constitutes one of the earliest attempts at a systematic rationalization of chemistry, combining phlogistic physical theory, the history of discoveries, descriptions of laboratory instruments, and the classification of chemical products and reactions. It is illustrated with four large fold-out engraved plates depicting various instruments. Handwritten bookplate on the blank endpaper. A very fine copy in a contemporary binding.
