[PAMPHLET - LOUVRE]. Letter on the Cancellation of the Painting Salon. First edition of this anonymous pamphlet denouncing the cancellation of the 1749 Louvre Salon. Cologne, n.p., 1749. In-12 Bradel style, red morocco-embossed half-basane, smooth spine decorated with blind-stamped fillets and the title in gilt letters (later binding). 47 pages, title medallion, headband, and initial. Minor scuffing, faint foxing. First edition of this anonymous pamphlet, in the form of a letter written in Paris on August 31, 1749, and addressed to Madame de R***. In it, the author denounces the cancellation of the official exhibition at the Salon du Louvre, which he attributes to the discouragement of the Academicians, overwhelmed by the public’s overly harsh criticism. A pleasant copy in a later binding.
