MORAND, Paul. U.S.A. - 1927. Album of Lyrical Photographs. First edition, enhanced with a rare autographed dedication by Paul Morand. Paris, Au Sans Pareil (“Plaisirs de bibliophiles” collection), 1928. Square 12mo, blue half-shagreen, spine with four raised bands decorated with the title and the author’s name in gold lettering, gilt head, covers intact. 139 pp. and 1 f. (end of printing), 18 compositions by Pierre Legrain printed in brown and bistre. Split binding on the front cover, scuffing on the binding of the back cover and along one edge, small white mark on the leather. First edition of these poems, laid out in landscape format, printed in landscape orientation, and embellished by Pierre Legrain with 18 Art Deco illustrations printed in brown and bistre. A bewildering journey in free verse across the United States, whose landscape-oriented printing evokes the movement of a railroad. Printed in an edition of 650 copies on vellum paper; this is one of the few unnumbered, non-commercial copies, enhanced by a rare autograph inscription by Paul Morand addressed to the Parisian notary Durant des Aulnois on the blank endpaper: “To Maître Durant des Aulnois / Paulmorand / for Christopher Columbus, unable to attend! / May 28.” Clean and fresh interior.
