[MANUSCRIPT - THEATER/OPÉRA-COMIQUE]. Collection of songs. 1829. A superb handwritten collection of pieces performed at the Le Havre theater during the 1828–1830 seasons, in a lovely Romantic-style binding signed by Costey. 1 volume, in-8 format, cherry-glazed half-calf with corners edged in gold fillet, spine with 4 raised bands underlined and cold-stamped, fleurons, friezes, and fillets in cold-stamped and gilded designs, title and date labels in brown leather, name “R.P. Costey" in full length, marbled edges, linings and endpapers of marbled paper (binding signed B. P. Costey). 1 handwritten folio (half-title page), 1 portrait of Mme. Lemerre (in the role of Rosina from *The Barber of Seville*) engraved on heavy paper by Laderer after Gibout, 352 pages handwritten in brown ink on laid paper, 28 blank leaves, 1 sheet with a handwritten table of contents, 1 blank sheet, and 1 sheet handwritten in pencil. Binding is scuffed, with some foxing. A lovely manuscript written in brown ink on laid paper, bringing together nearly 40 sung pieces (excerpts from comic operas, vaudevilles, carnival pieces, romances, songs, etc.) by composers from the late 18th and early 19th centuries: Scribe, Mélesville, Delavigne, Hoffman, Dupaty, Bouilly, Gaugiran-Nanteuil, etc. This is likely a prompter’s, conductor’s, or opera singer’s manuscript, compiled at the Théâtre du Havre for the 1828–1830 seasons, as indicated on the cast list for each play, which mentions the actors of the Le Havre troupe at the time (Mme. Lemerre, Messrs. Renaud, Duvernoy, Vernet, Moncasfin, Bellecour, Lucas, Charles). It is illustrated with a portrait of Madame Lemerre, who played Rosina in *The Barber of Seville*, engraved by Laderer after a drawing by Gibout, appearing as the frontispiece. Plays included: *La Dame Blanche*, *La Fiancée*, *Les Deux Nuits*, *Masaniello*, *Les Voix versées*, *The Barber of Seville*, *Joconde*, *William Tell*, *Fiorella*, *Marie*, *Les Rendez-vous bourgeois*, *La Vieille*, *Le Concert à la Cour*, *Jean de Paris*, *The Boy Husbands*, *The Chapel Master*, *The Bell*, *Emma*, *Paul and Virginie*, *The Bill of Exchange*, *The New Village Lord*, *The Mason*, *The Isolated House*, *The Lottery Ticket*, The Two Jealous Men, The Turkish Doctor, The Caliph of Baghdad, Léocadie, Count Ory, The Mute Girl of Portici, The Hussar of Felsheim, Jean, The Black Lady, Farewell to Rome, Romances & Songs (“Little Red Riding Hood” Piece, “Couplets of the Shepherdess and Lady of the Manor,” “Pierre’s Return,” “The Sound of the Horn,” “It’s the King,” “The Last Moment”). Handwritten bookplate on the blank endpaper; handwritten “C.P.” monogram on the last blank endpaper. Neatly handwritten, in a charming romantic binding.
