[HISTORY]. Collection of Memoirs on the History of France During the 18th Century. Volumes I through XXXVII. An extensive collection of 32 volumes in uniform bindings, from the library of André Maurois. Paris, Firmin-Didot, 1853–1890. 32 in-8 volumes, red half-shagreen with blind-stamped edging, spines with gold-threaded raised bands and blind-stamped borders, title and volume number gilded, date at the bottom, speckled edges (later binding). Approximately 300 pages per volume. Minor scuffing, some foxing. A vast collection bringing together the essential memoirs of the 18th century and the French Revolution, introduced and annotated by François Barrière and later by Adolphe de Lescure. Published by Firmin-Didot, this *Bibliothèque des Mémoires* constitutes the definitive collection for the study of society, customs, theatrical life, and political events spanning the Regency, the Revolution, and the First Empire. Our set comprises 32 volumes from various printings spanning the years 1853 to 1890. Volumes 32 through 36 and the supplementary volume 38 are missing. From the library of the writer and academician André Maurois (1885–1967), with his ex-libris—etched by Raoul Serres after a drawing by Henri Mondor—on the front endpapers. Bookplate by Sylas Loisel on the front endpapers; label from the H. Lefebvre Bookstore on the half-title page. A pleasant, cohesive set.
