In-8 (220 x 150 mm), light-colored half-basane, ribbed spine decorated with the title, author’s name, and date in gold lettering, covers and spine preserved (later binding). CXXIV and 264 pp. Spine very slightly sun-faded with small brown spots on the leather. Foxing, more prominent in the margins. First edition of this first-rate legal and regulatory compendium on the law governing the transport of passengers and goods during the Restoration, published by Pierre-Célestin Lafargue, an attorney at the Paris Court of Appeals. Published in 1827, at the height of the golden age of stagecoaches and horse-drawn transport, it is one of the few legal codes devoted exclusively to the status and regulation of land transportation in the early 19th century. It is preceded by a substantial introduction analyzing the evolution of legislation from the Ancien Régime through the Napoleonic decrees. A fine copy in a later binding, with its original covers preserved.
