[ORIGINAL DRAWING]. MALTESTE, Louis. Signed original drawing. Original drawing by Louis Malteste (image size: 13 x 19 cm) on a cardboard-backed sheet in-8 (16 x 27 cm), with stamps from the “Photogravure Verdoux, Ducourtioux & Huillard, 23 rue Jacob, Paris” on the reverse. Handwritten pencil inscriptions in the lower margin; sheet is slightly soiled along the margins and on the reverse. A beautiful original signed drawing by the French artist, painter, and illustrator Louis Malteste (1862–1928). It was used to illustrate a late 19th-century edition of the children’s novel *Après la pluie, le beau temps* by the Countess of Ségur. Depicting the scene “La douche du chien” (The Dog’s Shower) from the novel’s 10th chapter, it shows the little girl Télia pouring water on the dog Moutier. On the reverse side is the stamp of the Verdoux, Ducourtioux & Huillard workshops, which reproduced the drawing using photogravure for the printed edition. In fine condition.
