First edition of this collection of six libertine pieces, accompanied by 144 pages of music and illustrated in the first printing with a curious frontispiece and six licentious engravings by Elluin after Borel. London [Paris], n.p. [Cazin], 1789. 6 parts in 1 in-12 volume (130 x 80 mm), brown grained calfskin, plain spine decorated with gilt metal tools, title label in red morocco leather, triple gilt fillet framing the covers, guilloché edges, all edges gilt, marbled paper endpapers and linings (contemporary binding). Approximately 200 pages (discontinuous pagination), including 144 pages of engraved music, 1 frontispiece, and 6 full-page engravings by Elluin after Borel. Some scuffing, damaged top edge, one clasp split over 2 cm. A few minor marginal foxing spots. First edition of the illustrations, consisting of a curious frontispiece and 6 ravishing erotic figures engraved by Elluin after Borel. This collection consists of the following pieces: “La Chaste Suzanne,” “David and Bathsheba,” “The Chastity of Joseph,” “Judith,” “Agnès Sorel,” and “The Maid of Orléans.” The text is accompanied by 144 pages of engraved music. [Cohen 202] A fine contemporary copy, complete with the text, illustrations, and music plates.
