[FILM - DRAWING] COLIN, Paul. Calligram drawing paying homage to the cinema of the Roaring Twenties, autographed for the actress Marie Glory. Original drawing by poster artist and painter Paul Colin (1892–1985), bearing a handwritten, signed message to actress Marie Glory and a handwritten dedication by George Milton. Calligram drawing in ink on paper (180 x 270 mm), mounted on a mat in a framed, glass-covered display (300 x 390 mm), signed on the drawing in the lower right corner and dated October 21, 1931, with a handwritten dedication signed by George Milton on the reverse, mounted on a mat. Ink drawing depicting a cameraman operating his camera on a tripod, capturing a female profile—that of actress Marie Glory, a star of silent films and the early sound era—with numerous silhouettes gathered around her. The figures’ bodies and outlines are formed by a multitude of names of actors, directors, producers, and film companies of the era (Lumière, Pathé, Gaumont, Tobis, Osso, Natan, Marcel L’Herbier, René Clair, Mario Roustan, etc.). The print bears a handwritten inscription signed by Paul Colin addressed to the actress Marie Glory (1905–2009): “charming, delightful, ravishing (I’m talking about Francine, of course).” “Francine” refers to the name of the main character played by Marie Glory in the iconic film *Dactylo* (released in 1931, the very year this drawing was created). To the left of the inscription is another note, written in pencil, which is difficult to read. On the back of the frame is an autographed dedication by George Milton (1886–1970), a famous actor and singer of the 1930s and Marie Glory’s frequent co-star on screen. Framing label on the back (Duvivier in Neuilly-sur-Seine). A beautiful tribute to the cinema of the Roaring Twenties by one of the most innovative poster artists of the early 20th century.
