CHEVALIER, Maurice. *Ma Route et mes Chansons*. London, Hollywood, Paris. First edition. A lovely copy from André Maurois’s library, accompanied by a beautiful signed autograph letter from Maurice Chevalier to the Maurois couple. Paris, René Julliard, 1947. In-8 (190 x 145 mm), burgundy half-maroquin with corners edged in gold fillet, spine with 2 wide faux ribs cold-stamped and adorned with the author’s name and the title in gold lettering, gilt head edge, covers and spine intact. 241 pages. Spine very slightly sun-faded, slight scuffing at the top and in the corners, margins slightly browned. First edition of the second volume of the memoirs of the famous singer Maurice Chevalier (1888–1972), in which he recounts his heyday on the international stage, describing his successes and memories of performing in London, Hollywood, and Paris. A valuable copy from the library of André Maurois, featuring his bookplate engraved by Raoul Serres after a design by Henri Mondor on the inside front cover. It is accompanied by an autograph letter signed by the author to Mr. and Mrs. André Maurois, mounted inside the front cover (1½ pages, in-8 format, on blue paper, 14 Avenue Foch, Paris, with a mailing envelope addressed to Mr. and Mrs. A. Maurois, 96 Boulevard Maurice Barrès, Neuilly-sur-Seine). He recalls their recent reunion at the Julliards’ home and the unexpected receipt of a copy of the first book published by André Maurois since the liberation, thanking him for the dedication he had inscribed (“the most beautiful and shortest of all the dedications I have from you”), before concluding enthusiastically: “It is with all my heart that I say to you, in my best Ménilmontant accent: Welcome to Paname!” A very fine copy.
