CÉLINE, Louis-Ferdinand. *Les Beaux draps*. Céline’s third and final major pamphlet, the only one published during the Occupation. Paris, Nouvelles Éditions Françaises, 1942. In-12 (180 x 120 mm), paperback, cover printed in black and red. 222 pages. Cover faded, spine creased with small tears at the edges. This edition was published one year after the original, bearing the “printed” date of August 25, 1942, and the fictitious notation “79th edition” on the cover. In this third political pamphlet, following *Bagatelles pour un massacre* (1937) and *L’École des cadavres* (1938), the author once again expresses his aversion to Jews and Freemasons, his disgust for parliamentary democracy, his very bleak view of France’s decline between the two world wars, his xenophobia, as well as his sympathy for the German occupiers. The Vichy regime, which also came under fire, had the book banned in the Free Zone on December 4, 1941. This book is difficult to find, as the author—and later his widow, Lucette Destouches—have always refused to allow its reprinting in France. Clean and fresh interior.
