[MAP - ÎLE-DE-FRANCE]. Map of the Seine department. A superb engraved and watercolored map depicting Paris and its suburbs in 1857. Large engraved (86 x 110 cm) and watercolor map, consisting of 24 panels mounted on canvas and folded. Slight marks on the canvas. A superb map of the Seine department, revised and updated in 1857 under the direction of Colonel Blondel, based on the map produced in 1839 at the General War Depot under the direction of General Baron Jean-Jacques-Germain Pelet. It provides a highly detailed depiction of Paris and its surrounding region in the 19th century, including topography, hydrography, and the transportation network just before the expansion of Paris’s boundaries under the 1859 law. Our copy features several color highlights: the Seine is colored with blue watercolor, while the forts and fortresses are marked with green and ochre watercolor. In excellent condition.
