CAILLARD, Christian. Mortefontaine. Complete set in two states. N.p. [Lyon], n.p. [Cercle Lyonnais du Livre], 1950. In-4, loose sheets, in folders with a black-printed cover. A series of 22 plates in the first state and a series of 24 plates in the final state (some with notes), supplemented by 4 unused plates, all protected by paper strips. Slight marks and scuffing on the cover. A few protective sheets are creased or frayed. Complete double set on tinted Malacca paper featuring drypoint engravings by Christian Caillard (1899–1985) illustrating the book *Mortefontaine. Suite nervalienne* by Francis Carco (published in Lyon by the Cercle Lyonnais du Livre in 1950). It comprises a suite of 22 plates in the first state and a suite of 24 plates in the final state, some with remarks, plus 4 unused plates. The two sets are stored in two separate folders. A figurative painter and printmaker of the École de Paris, and a friend of Serge Poliakoff and Eugène Dabit, Christian Caillard displays in his drypoint engravings a melancholic and unadorned poetic sensibility, perfectly suited to the landscapes of water and forests of Mortefontaine celebrated by Francis Carco in the wake of Nerval. The plates are fresh and well-preserved.
Delivery is optional. You can use the carrier of your choice. The stated price does not include the lot price or the auction house fees.
