First edition featuring 60 pen-and-ink illustrations in the text, an etching as a frontispiece, and a lithograph as an insert, all signed on the plate. Carefully printed on fine glossy vellum paper. Edmond Rocher (1873–1948) was a French painter, poster artist, lithographer, and poet, specializing in the symbolic and ornamental depiction of flowers. Closely associated with the Symbolist movement and a leading figure of Art Nouveau, he exhibited notably at the famous Salon des Cent. This copy is enhanced by a beautiful autograph dedication signed by the author to Pierre Quentin-Bauchart (1881–1916), a 20th-century French historian and politician, whose name is inscribed in the Panthéon among the 560 writers who died in combat during World War I: “To Mr. Pierre Quentin-Bauchard, through a love of flowers, a devoted tribute. Edmond Rocher. 1913” The interior is clean and in good condition.
