MORRIS. — Lucky Luke. Under the Western Sky. Marcinelle-Charleroi, Éditions Dupuis, 1968. In-4, softcover with publisher’s illustrations, square spine, 46 color plates. Lucky Luke Collection, No. 4. A 1968 reprint of the fourth volume of the Lucky Luke adventures, originally published in 1952 by Éditions Dupuis. Text and illustrations by Morris. This volume brings together three stories: The Return of Joe the Trigger, Round-Up Days, and The Great Fight. These stories belong to the series’ early period, before Morris began collaborating with René Goscinny, and reflect the gradual development of the Belgian artist’s graphic style and sense of humor. In it, Lucky Luke continues his adventures in the American West, amid duels, cattle roundups, and encounters with colorful characters. Morris develops the slapstick situations and dynamic action sequences that would make the series a success. The cover depicts Lucky Luke sitting on a ranch fence, juggling his revolver, while Jolly Jumper watches the scene. This humorous composition illustrates the bond between the cowboy and his faithful horse. Condition: A good copy. The cover has fresh colors, with slight signs of handling and some scuffing along the edges and corners. The spine is well-preserved. The interior is clean, with a subtle patina on the paper.
