JOUBERT (Pierre). — Masterpieces. Volume 3. Alain Littaye Éditions, 1983. Large quarto, publisher’s color-illustrated hardcover. Presumed first edition of this third volume devoted to the work of Pierre Joubert (1910–2002), one of the great French illustrators of the 20th century, particularly famous for his depictions of youth, Scouting, and adventure. This volume brings together a selection of his illustrations, accompanied by texts by François Rivière, Jean-Louis Foncine, Dominique Mauriès, and Jean-Luc Fromental. The cover, which is particularly striking, depicts several young adventurers exploring a mountainous landscape, equipped with binoculars and other observation devices. A fine copy, showing some slight scuffing and signs of handling on the board cover.
