McMANUS (George). — La Famille Illico. Volume 2: 1938–1940. Bringing Up Father. Paris, Futuropolis, n.d. Oblong in-4 album, publisher’s illustrated cardboard binding, printed spine. Black-and-white reproductions of comic strips. Original French edition in this format dedicated to *The Illico Family* (*Bringing Up Father*), the famous American comic strip created in 1913 by George McManus (1884–1954). This collection brings together strips published between 1938 and 1940, continuing the adventures of Illico (Jiggs) and his wife Belle (Maggie). Through the misadventures of this now-wealthy couple, McManus crafts a humorous satire of social conventions and the American bourgeoisie. The work stands out for its elegant artwork, refined compositions, and Art Deco aesthetic, all of which helped establish McManus as one of the great figures in the history of comics. A fine copy, with a well-preserved illustrated hardcover, slight signs of wear, and a subtle patina. The interior appears clean.
