JOAN CORNELLÀ (Barcelona, 1981) “Nobody loves you,” 2019. Giclée on paper. Print no. 47/100, Signed and numbered in pencil. Measurements: 50 x 69.5 cm. Through an aesthetic of seemingly naive appearance, vivid colors, and characters with deliberately simplified expressions, the artist constructs seemingly innocent scenes that conceal absurd, unsettling, and irony-laden situations. In *Nobody Loves You*, Cornellà depicts a birthday celebration in which a cake—an element traditionally associated with joy and affection—conveys a message as direct as it is disconcerting: “Nobody Loves You.” The contrast between the festive appearance of the scene and the harshness of the phrase constitutes the composition’s primary narrative device. “Nobody Loves You” has been produced in various formats, including Giclée prints, silkscreen prints, and limited-edition vinyl figures. Joan Cornellà Vázquez is an illustrator, cartoonist, and contemporary artist. His work is characterized by a seemingly simple visual language, vivid colors, and characters with impassive expressions who find themselves in situations filled with absurd humor, satire, and dark humor. His work has transcended the realm of illustration and comics to carve out a space of its own within contemporary visual culture and the art market. Cornellà began to gain recognition through his publications and comic books, collaborating with media outlets such as El Jueves, Le Monde, The New York Times, and El Periódico. His visual universe has since expanded into painting, sculpture, limited editions, and art objects, achieving widespread international recognition, particularly through social media.
