GEORGES CHARPENTIER (France, 1937–2024) Untitled. Bronze and wood. Signed and dated. Measurements: 40 x 20 x 20 cm. Georges Charpentier was a self-taught French sculptor. From the outset, he showed a particular interest in drawing and exploring the expressive possibilities of materials, developing his work in the studio set up in his family’s former sawmill, where he experimented with wood, stone, iron, and marble before gradually shifting his focus to bronze during the 1970s. His sculptural language evolved toward an organic abstraction characterized by refined forms and curvilinear volumes, at times evocative of the female figure, movement, and nature. Between 1977 and 1995, he exhibited at the Félix Vercel Gallery in New York, and his work was also shown in cities such as Paris, São Paulo, and Tokyo, gaining international recognition. In 2015, he received an award from the Académie de Saintonge in recognition of his artistic career and his contribution to sculpture. His works are included in international private collections as well as in collections and institutions in various cities, including Munich, Nice, São Paulo, and Tokyo, among others.
