KEITH HARING (Reading, Pennsylvania, 1958 – New York, 1990) / MEDICOM TOY. BE@RBRICK “Keith Haring #9” 1000%, 2023. Articulated figure made of molded and decorated plastic. Official edition authorized by the Keith Haring Foundation and licensed by Artestar, New York. Comes with original box. Measurements: 72 x 36 x 25 cm; 80 x 41 x 31 cm (box). This ninth edition of the collaboration between the Keith Haring Foundation and Medicom Toy brings one of contemporary art’s most recognizable graphic languages to the monumental 1000% scale. The model was officially released in April 2023, and Medicom Toy lists its approximate height as 70 cm. The distinctive BE@RBRICK silhouette is adorned with a continuous pattern of moving human figures associated with Haring’s visual vocabulary, rendered in red, yellow, and blue on a white background and accompanied by the characteristic black lines that suggest rhythm and movement. This adaptation transforms the three-dimensional figure into an immersive canvas for an iconography originally conceived through the immediacy of drawing and public space. The piece also bears the marks © Keith Haring Foundation and Licensed by Artestar, New York, consistent with the official license indicated by Medicom Toy. Keith Haring rose to prominence in the early 1980s through his drawings created in the empty advertising spaces of the New York City subway. His artistic language, based on schematic figures, bold outlines, and instantly recognizable symbols, soon transcended the urban space to become part of exhibitions, public projects, and widely distributed objects. His work is held in institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, and his legacy is managed by the Keith Haring Foundation.
