MIGUEL MACAYA (Santander, 1964). Untitled. Oil on panel. Signed in the lower left corner. Measurements: 122 x 122 cm. In the panel up for auction, Macaya makes the dish emerge from a dark background through subtle variations of browns, whites, and grays, creating an atmosphere with a distinctly tenebrist character. This treatment of light and matter links his painting to a tradition that critics have associated with great masters such as Rembrandt, Velázquez, Goya, and Manet. Miguel Macaya began his solo exhibition career in Santander in 1986 and subsequently developed a national and international career with exhibitions in Barcelona, Madrid, Paris, Amsterdam, and other European cities. His work is included, among other collections, in the Can Framis Museum-Fundació Vila Casas, the Panorama Museum in Bad Frankenhausen, and various Spanish and international institutions.
