ANTONIO MURADO LÓPEZ (Lugo, 1964). “Marañas,” 1996. Oil on canvas. Signed, dated, and titled on the reverse. Measurements: 61 x 61 cm; 76 x 76 cm (frame). Created in 1996, this painting belongs to the “Marañas” series, which Antonio Murado began in 1994 and presented at the 23rd Pontevedra Art Biennial. The series as a whole constitutes an interesting manifestation of his explorations of line, movement, and the expressive possibilities of abstraction. The significance of this series is reflected in its presence in collections such as that of ABANCA, which holds a composition from 1995. In this work, a network of sinuous lines in greenish tones extends across a neutral background, creating a delicate interplay of overlaps, transparencies, and visual rhythms. The seemingly spontaneous nature of the strokes coexists with a subtle spatial organization, evoking organic forms and natural structures. The composition reveals the artist’s interest in exploring the boundaries between chance, gesture, and pictorial construction. Antonio Murado is one of the Galician painters of his generation with the greatest international prominence. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Salamanca in 1988 and received various grants and awards, including the 1995 Unión Fenosa grant, which enabled him to move to New York, where he spent much of his career. His painting, situated between abstraction and the evocation of nature, is characterized by experimentation with materials, color, and textures. In 2002, he was the featured artist in the exhibition *Un millón de acres* at the Galician Center for Contemporary Art in Santiago de Compostela. His work is represented in institutions and collections such as the Museum of Fine Arts in A Coruña, the Bank of Spain Collection, and the ABANCA Collection.
