“ZUSH”; ALBERT PORTA (Barcelona, 1946–2025). “Druids,” 1989. Mixed media on paper. Titled, signed, and dated on the reverse. Measurements: 26 x 32.5 cm; 33 x 43 cm (frame). “Druids” belongs to the height of Zush’s imaginative universe, built upon a personal mythology, a unique style of writing, and beings with fantastical anatomies. The composition juxtaposes a large figure with an oval head and prominent eyes against a network of graphic symbols, numerals, spirals, and lines that spreads across the paper like a mental map. The combination of mark-making, drawing, and writing blurs the boundaries between body, sign, and thought—a recurring theme in his artistic language. Zush was one of the most unique and experimental figures in Spanish art of the second half of the 20th century. Albert Porta adopted this identity in 1968 and retained it until 2001, when he began calling himself Evru. His work spanned painting, drawing, sculpture, books, sound, and digital art; the Reina Sofía Museum and MACBA jointly organized the major retrospective *Zush. Tecura* (2000–2001), which brought together more than two hundred works. His work is extensively represented in the MACBA collection.
