PETER HALLEY (New York, 1953) for Yellowpop. “002,” 2025. Acrylic panel with UV printing and flexible neon-style LED light tubes. Limited edition of 50 pieces, individually printed. Certificate of authenticity included. Presented in its original box with an installation kit. Provenance: private collection, France. Measurements: 40 x 40 cm. Created in 2025 in collaboration with Yellowpop, this work translates Peter Halley’s characteristic geometric vocabulary—Halley being one of the key figures of the American neo-geo movement—into the language of LED lighting. The composition articulates squares, rectangular structures, and angular lines through a vibrant combination of fluorescent colors. The lighting accentuates the relationships between the different planes, evoking the circuits, connections, and compartmentalized spaces that form the core of his visual imagination. Through these elements, Halley reflects on the structures of contemporary society, technology, and communication systems. Peter Halley studied at Yale University and earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of New Orleans. During the 1980s, he established himself as one of the leading figures of the Neo-Geo movement, developing an abstract language based on cells, prisons, and conduits, conceived as metaphors for social organization. His career combines artistic creation, theoretical writing, and teaching; he directed the graduate painting program at Yale University from 2002 to 2011. He has had solo exhibitions at institutions such as the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, and MoMA in New York. His work is included in the collections of MoMA, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Tate in London.
