Henri Fantin-Latour (1836–1904) The Embroiderers (2nd print). 1898. Lithograph. 370 x 260 [440 x 280 mm]. Hédiard-Mason 123. Very fine proof on pelure paper, before the margins were cleaned; the edges of the stone appear black in the print. Dedicated “To G. Hédiard” and signed in pencil; mounted by the corners on vellum. Traces of glue in the upper corners on the front. Slight, normal curling. Full margins. At the bottom of the backing, a pencil annotation in the hand of Arsène Bonafous-Murat: “Cat. G. Hédiard Auction, Drouot Room 8, Nov. 28, 1904, no. 107. Printed in an edition of 1 or 2 proofs in this condition,” followed by his initials. All margins intact. AABM stamp (Lugt 3075). Germain Hédiard (1852–1904) was an art historian, a lawyer by training, a collector, and a friend of the artist, whose biography he wrote and to whom he devoted numerous works. In particular, he compiled the lithographed catalog of the artist’s work (published beginning in 1892 in the journal *L’Artiste*, and later as a book). "Untrimmed edges. Stains in the lower margins; printed as 2 or 3 test prints prior to the edition published in *L'Épreuve* (August–September 1895 issue) under the title: *Intérieur*. " (Georges Hédiard, rev. Rainer Michael Mason, *Fantin-Latour, Lithographies*, Geneva, Cabinet des Estampes and Éditions du Tricorne, 1980, p. 117).
