CHEVALLIER (Alphonse) - LANGLUMÉ (Pierre). A Comprehensive Treatise on Lithography, or A Lithographer’s Manual. Paris: Printed by Mme Huzard (née Vallat La Chapelle), 1838. — In-8, 199 x 130: XVI, 270 pp., (1 f.), 12 plates. Blue half-cloth, smooth spine with decoration, untrimmed (20th-century binding). Partially original edition, expanded with notes by the lithographic printers Étienne Mantoux and Jean-Baptiste Joumar, of this treatise first published in 1830 and awarded the Société d’encouragement prize that same year. Written by the printer-lithographer Pierre Langlumé and the chemist Alphonse Chevallier, it begins with excerpts from laws and regulations governing the press, from the law of October 21, 1814, to the royal ordinance of September 9, 1835, and then presents a history of lithography followed by a description of all processes—both known and new—that may be of interest to lithographers. The edition is illustrated with 12 plates depicting lithographic presses. A copy in a modest binding from the first half of the 20th century. Foxing.
