[FLYER]. Open Letter to Mr. Paul Claudel, French Ambassador to Japan. Paris, July 1, 1925. — One folio sheet, 270 x 210. Famous leaflet printed in black on oxblood-colored paper, directed against Paul Claudel. Signed by Aragon, Artaud, Bousquet, Breton, Crevel, Desnos, Éluard, Ernst, Leiris, Limbourg, A. Masson, Péret, Ribemont-Dessaignes, Soupault, Vitrac, etc., this is a scathing response by the Surrealists and a few others to Claudel’s interview with *Il Secolo*, published in the journal *Comedia* on June 17, 1925, in which he notably made an insulting comparison between Surrealism and pederasty. (See the website andrebreton.fr.) This leaflet, folded in four, was distributed at the Saint-Pol-Roux banquet at the Closerie des Lilas on July 2, 1925. A rare copy that was not distributed, in perfect condition, with no traces of folding. A second copy, bearing the marks left by the folds, is included.
Delivery is optional. You can use the carrier of your choice. The stated price does not include the lot price or the auction house fees.
