[MAGAZINE]. Cannibale. Paris: Au Sans Pareil, May 25, 1920. — In-8 booklet, 242 x 158: (8 ff.), cover printed in red. Stapled. Second and final issue of this Dada magazine founded and edited by Francis Picabia, “with the collaboration of all the Dadaists of the world.” In addition to Picabia, contributors to this issue included Tristan Tzara, Marguerite Buffet, Georges Ribemont-Dessaignes, Paul Dermée, Céline Arnauld, Paul Éluard, André Breton, and Philippe Soupault. The front page features a photograph of Picabia at the wheel of his car, a Mercer 85 HP, alongside Tristan Tzara. On the front of the seventh leaf is an illustration by Picabia (Le Cul en tête à tête). “Although its presentation is entirely different from that of *391*, *Cannibale* is nonetheless the most accomplished expression of Picabia’s spirit—direct and virulent, above all polemical. The issue opens with a portrait of Tristan Tzara by Picabia, which is nothing more than a sketch—a pretext for inscriptions—the whole of which is an insult to the conventions of art” (Hugnet, Dictionnaire du dadaïsme, 1976, p. 40). A very well-preserved copy despite a slight vertical crease in the center.
