LAMBRICHS (Georges) - WOLS. Chaystre, or the Uncomfortable Pleasures. Paris: Les Éditions de Minuit, [1948]. — In-16, 167 x 101: 88 pp., (4 ff., last blank), printed cover. Vignes, Bibliography of Éditions de Minuit, 101. First edition. “A strange novel based on a case of psychological dissociation, in which the protagonist accuses himself of the rape and murder of his mother. In a complex structure that blends narrative, monologue, and diary excerpts, the author explores a cruel world, somewhere between the dreamlike and the perverse, where reality constantly wavers on illusory foundations, keeping the characters and the reader in an uncomfortable position” (Vignes). Printed in an edition of 1,500 copies. One of the first 50 copies published by Alfa Navarre (No. 14), accompanied by two original drypoint engravings by the German-born painter and illustrator WOLS (1913–1951), numbered and signed by the artist. Very well-preserved copy, largely uncut.
