JOYANT (Maurice). The Kitchen of Mr. Momo, the Bachelor. Paris: Éditions Pellet, [1930]. — In-4, 235 x 185: frontispiece, (4) leaves, IV, 283 pp., (5) leaves (the last one blank), 24 plates, printed cover. Paperback, padded cover. First edition printed in a run of 250 numbered copies on Arches handmade paper (no. 240), illustrated with a color frontispiece after Édouard VUILLARD, depicting Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec cooking a lobster à l’armoricaine, and 24 inset compositions engraved in intaglio by Padovani after drawings, sketches, and watercolors by Henri de TOULOUSE-LAUTREC, including 6 in color and 18 in black. “This beautiful book is a tribute to friendship and the joy of living. [...] For years, Lautrec produced numerous portraits, drawings, and sketches based on some of these cheerful, food-loving friends and on certain dishes. Joyant collected all these drawings and had them engraved to illustrate his book. […] Lautrec’s drawings bring to life Dr. Tapié de Celeyran preparing a sauce, Joyant as Père Ubu, Mr. Guibert as a saint, and so on. Others are sketches of wild boar’s head, coot or scaup, snail, woodcock, hare, young pike, goose, pig, partridge, rail…» (Oberlé, 297). A very well-preserved copy despite a few rare, scattered foxing spots of no consequence.
