Loose-leaf, bound cover, in the publisher’s slipcase and jacket. Partially original edition of this anthology, illustrated with 16 original full-page etchings by Jean-Émile LABOUREUR, Henri MATISSE, Édouard GOERG, Jean COCTEAU, Marie LAURENCIN, André LHOTE, Hermine DAVID, Henry de WAROQUIER, Jacques VILLON, Valentine HUGO, Jean-Gabriel DARAGNÈS, DIGNIMONT, Robert LOTIRON, Pierre DUBREUIL, Roger VIEILLARD, and Jacques MARET. Most of the engravings are signed on the plate. These etchings are arranged in “alternation” with texts—most of them previously unpublished—by François Mauriac, Jean Giraudoux, Léon-Paul Fargue, Henri Mondor, Thierry Maulnier, Jean Paulhan, Jacques de Lacretelle, Gabriel Marcel, Paul Éluard, André Beucler, Pierre Mac Orlan, Jean Cassou, Pierre Bost, Georges Pillement, Georges Ribemont-Dessaignes, and Max Jacob.
