BRETON (André). The State of Surrealism Between the Two Wars. [Vichy: Presses du Ministère de l’information, 1943]. — In-4 pamphlet, 270 x 210: 17 ff., printed cover. Stapled. A mimeographed pirated edition of the lecture given by Breton on December 10, 1942, to French students at Yale University. It was printed in an edition of 250 copies without the author’s consent. It was a copy sold at Alde on April 22, 2026 (Precious Literary First Editions—Baudelairean Memorabilia), under lot number 155, that revealed the place and date of printing of this pamphlet. At the end, it stated: “I, the undersigned, certify that I printed this leaflet in an edition of 250 copies on the mimeograph presses of the Vichy Ministry of Information in 1943 for our friends. B. Meuleau.” Our copy simply bears the handwritten notation: “Limited edition of 250 copies.” Upon comparing the Alde copy with ours, one notices that the text layout is different. Very well-preserved copy.
