[BRETON (André)]. A Corpse. [Paris: Special Printing of *A Corpse*, January 15, 1930]. — Folio-sized brochure, 2 leaves, 370 x 320. A scathing and famous pamphlet directed against André Breton, composed by writers “excluded” from the Surrealist movement and vehemently attacked in the Second Manifesto of Surrealism (December 1929). It includes texts by Georges Ribemont-Dessaignes, Roger Vitrac, Michel Leiris, Georges Limbour, Robert Desnos, Georges Bataille, Jacques Baron, and others, as well as friends of his first wife, from whom he had recently divorced: Raymond Queneau, Max Morise, and Jacques Prévert. The front page features a photograph of Breton with his eyes closed, wearing a crown of thorns. According to Georges Bataille, nearly half of the copies were destroyed. This document was reportedly printed in an edition of 500 copies on paper of various colors, but approximately 200 were reportedly destroyed. This copy is one of the rare examples on pink paper; it is in excellent condition and has never been folded.
