BEN. I, Ben, sign [Ben, God, Total Art, His Magazine]. Brussels, Hamburg: Lebeer Hossmann, 1975. — In-4, loose-leaf. Second expanded edition of the famous magazine self-published by the artist Ben (1935–2024) in Nice in 1962–1963. It is a collection of collages, texts, and multiples through which the artist—then a record store owner at “Laboratoire 32” on Rue Tondutti de l’Escarène—laid the foundations for his “Total Art.” Among the items pasted into the book are a razor blade, a wine label, an envelope, a 45 rpm record (“L’Amour et la vie (A. Gomez-R. Mamoudy) / Les Alcarson with Jean Claudric and his orchestra”), a piece of string, forms, etc. This edition publishes for the first time the introduction that Robert Erébo had prepared for the magazine in August 1962 and which had remained unpublished, printed on the reverse side of the pages. A few elements have come loose, but the collection as a whole is very well preserved.
