JAPAN - 19th century Wooden statuette depicting Shoriken (Zhongli Quan 鐘離權), shown on horseback and holding his feather fan. The piece is carved from solid wood. This Taoist immortal, also regarded as a divine general, is depicted mounted on a richly harnessed horse, the entire composition resting on a naturalistic base with a rugged relief. Shoriken wears loose-fitting garments, with a sword scabbard hanging from his back. With his left hand, he holds the reins of his horse, while his right arm is extended forward, presenting his iconic feather fan—a symbol of his power to resurrect the dead and transmute stone into silver or gold. The facial features of both the rider and the mount are delicately highlighted with a soft red hue; the eyes are inlaid with glass painted on the reverse side. Dimensions: Height 40.2 cm, width 28.5 cm, depth 19.5 cm. Weight: 5.18 kg
