JAPAN - A four-panel folding screen (*hina-byōbu*) decorated with a continuous painting depicting a *jinmaku* (a curtain used to demarcate a military encampment). This curtain, rendered in translucent black and white, is suspended from a taut cord—in shades of blue and gray—and held in place by slender black poles topped with hexagonal ornaments. The curtain is decorated with emblems (*mon*) depicting three Japanese loquat (*biwa*) leaves arranged in a circle. The polychrome painting is executed on mulberry paper against a gold background, all set within a black-lacquered wooden frame.
