JAPAN - 20th century Decorative curtain made of brocaded silk, of the *tochô* (戸帳) type—used in Buddhist temples—adorned with a bamboo motif. The fabric is decorated with overlapping bamboo leaves (*take*, 竹) in shades of gold, silver, green, and deep reddish-brown on a dark blue background. The leaves are delicately outlined with silver thread. The reverse side is lined with silver-colored silk. Dimensions: Height 195 cm; width 260 cm. (Signs of wear, small moisture stains)
