JAPAN - 20th century Set of nine Buddhist trays for floral offerings (*hana-zara*), made of brass and decorated with openwork motifs. Each circular tray features a large engraved lotus flower (*hasu*) in the center, surrounded by an openwork border composed of other lotus flowers, leaves, and plant scrolls. These trays are used in Buddhist rituals to hold flower petals—either real or paper—intended to be scattered during the *sange* ceremony (flower scattering). They are closely related to the ritual flower baskets known as *keko*. Each tray bears an engraved dedicatory inscription mentioning a recipient or donor, and is fitted with three silk cords—in green, red, and white—for hanging or handling. Dimensions: Diameter: 23.3 cm (for each tray). (Signs of wear, traces of oxidation, etc.)
