JAPAN - 20th century Metal alloy gong, suspended from a stand This gong is decorated with a chrysanthemum motif in relief, flanked by a pair of phoenixes (*hô'ô*) in flight. This type of instrument is struck during the recitation of sutras. The gong features finely carved, openwork supports shaped like swirling clouds, enhanced with polychrome pigments. In the center is an emblem depicting a wisteria . The set comes with a mallet. (signs of wear, minor loss of gilding, etc.) Dimensions: Set: height 58.5 cm, width 52.8 cm, depth 26 cm Gong (*kei*): height 12.5 cm, width 20.5 cm Mallet (*bachi*): length 27 cm.
