JAPAN - 20th century Bronze okimono depicting the smiling deity Hotei, seated on his large treasure bag and accompanied by a child Hotei, one of the Seven Gods of Good Fortune, is depicted with his characteristic attributes: bare-chested, with a prominent belly and loose-fitting clothing. He is seated on his immense cloth sack—a magical sack that, according to tradition, never empties and contains treasures and blessings. His right hand is raised, with one finger pointing upward, while his left hand points to the child standing beside him. The child mimics Hotei’s gesture. The sculpture consists of three distinct elements: the sack, Hotei, and the child. Dimensions: Height: 31.5 cm; Width: 36.5 cm; Depth: 23.5 cm. (scuffs)
