Polychrome carved panel from Eket (Ibibio), Nigeria. An imposing carved wooden panel, remarkable for its geometric composition and the power of its polychrome decoration. Four stylized faces punctuate the surface, which is dominated by a central figure with half-closed eyes, set within an eight-pointed radiating motif. The reliefs, highlighted with white pigments, contrast with the brown-black background, giving the piece a striking graphic presence. Two side posts, held together by ties, frame the panel. The reverse side, left unfinished, shows significant signs of workmanship and wear. This work is reminiscent of the tradition of the great Eket panel masks, particularly in its iconography and sculptural treatment. Base included. Height: 138 cm
