Large Dogon sculpture, Mali. An imposing standing female figure, notable for the extreme simplicity of its forms and the verticality of its composition. The ogival head, with its soberly sketched features, sits atop a long, cylindrical neck and a slender body, with prominent breasts and arms resting along the torso. Small, light-colored inlays highlight the sides of the face. The legs, slightly apart, rest on a circular base. The wood features a thick, dark brown patina that is irregular and grainy, punctuated by ochre deposits and significant traces of surface erosion. Height: 113 cm
