Female shrine figure from Alusi, Igbo, Nigeria. An imposing sculpture characterized by a tall, crested headdress and broad, finely striated locks of hair framing the face. The outstretched arms end in open hands, palms turned toward the sky, while the chest and abdomen bear carefully incised scarifications. The figure wears a striped cloth loincloth tied around the hips. Wood with a deep, aged patina and an earthy appearance, showing significant traces of light pigments, surface deposits, and signs of wear. It resembles the large Alusi figures, representations of guardian deities once placed in Igbo shrines. Height: 115 cm
