Mbumba-Bwete reliquary guardian figure, Sango–Kota, Gabon. Wooden sculpture featuring an elongated anthropomorphic head with circular, attached eyes, framed by large ears on either side. The face, with its great expressive restraint, sits atop a long, ringed neck and a geometric body with diamond-shaped openwork, accented by metal cabochons. The precision of the composition, the balance of proportions, and the contrast between the sculpted forms and the metal ornaments characterize this fine-quality example. Antique patina with a dark brown appearance, nuanced by deep wear, oxidation, and traces of handling. Height: 30 cm
